We worked closely with the rugby club to develop a lighting design that would allow evening trainings on the entire grounds.
Pre-install
Some of the Sumner Rugby ground floodlights had blown and the remaining ones weren’t emitting enough light. The players were struggling to see during night time practices and as a result were having to train in only a small area that had sufficient lighting. The lights had been upgraded some years ago, however local residents complained about them being “too glary”. A lighting upgrade would have to go through the council consent process and there was a limited number of poles to mount the lights onto, making it a challenge.
What we did
We worked closely with the rugby club and council to develop a suitable lighting design to satisfy all of the parties involved, including nearby residents. We chose extremely powerful floodlights and ensured they were installed in the correct positions to maximise output while minimising glare. The installation process involved checking the current infrastructure and new poles could handle the extra weight of the lights and completely rewiring some of the light poles to provide adequate power.
Outcome
The lighting levels at the Sumner Rugby Club ground have increased by 400%. We worked to a tight schedule and managed to complete the project in time for the winter rugby season and the players were very happy with the results.
