Our powerful, ultra efficient lights brightened up the building, making engineering work easier to perform.
Smith Cranes and Construction operates the largest fleet of mobile cranes in the South Island, and over 300 plant items that are hired on a casual or contract basis for all types of construction and related works.
Pre-install
The Smith Cranes site in Harewood has one main factory and many smaller buildings and bunkers for concrete fabrication. Half of the main factory lighting had failed and much of the rest of the building had aged bulbs that were putting out a weak yellow light.
What we did
The main factory building has a lot of glass that lets in ambient light so we emplaced wireless daylight sensors in the building that talk to the wirelessly controlled lights. The lights dim or power up depending on the amount of light on the factory floor. We upgraded the lighting in all the nooks crannies and bunkers with weatherproof or damage resistant lights to brighten up areas that are often overlooked as important.
Outcome
We knew that the results of the upgrade would be dramatic, and we made it more so by putting in more powerful Lights that use the same amount of power as standard LED high bays. This allowed the staff doing the engineering tasks inside to see the quality of their work. Our design, products and wireless control system vastly improved Smith Cranes lighting and dramatically reduced the amount of money spent on lighting.
Ultra efficient lights and utilising the latest wireless technology meant TIL freight had a return of investment of only 1.45 years and an annual net saving of $40,845.00.
We installed 28,000 lumen fittings into the main workshop areas to make sure the mechanics and paint and panel workers could see any imperfections.
