We removed over 100 lights and still managed to increase lighting levels by 200-400% across the store.
Pre-install
PAK’nSAVE Hornby had 681 fluorescent lights that were clearly old and many had failed - burning with a yellow or pink tinge. The main retail space had a lot of lights placed in long rows that weren't emitting enough light. The inward goods area was very dark and workspaces like the butchery, deli and bakery did not have adequate lighting due to so many blown lights. Ultimately, the owners were paying a lot to operate lights that made PAK’nSAVE Hornby look dull.
What we did
We took the owners to visit some of our other completed lighting install sites so they could experience the Lighter difference for themselves, decide how they want their store to look and make decisions accordingly. We then created a bespoke lighting design to ensure we would meet the customers needs. In the retail space we removed 132 unnecessary lights and still managed to double, and even triple in some areas, the amount of light. We rewired a large section of the store to allow the lights to be controlled efficiently for night fill. The install was complex and completed in stages and, at all hours, so we didn’t negatively impact operations.
Outcome
Lighting levels have increased by 200-400% across the store and they have recorded significant savings in power. The workers are more alert and the owners are very happy, as you can see from the video below.
Lighter worked with Mitre 10 MEGA Blenheim on a lighting design to improve the customer and staff experience and overall health & safety.
Working within a tight budget, we created a design to maximise lighting levels through clever placement and minimise operating costs.
