PAK'nSAVE Ormiston now has one of New Zealand's most energy efficient supermarket lighting systems.
Pre-install
The owners of PAK’nSAVE Ormiston aimed to reduce operating costs and boost profitability with a more energy-efficient lighting solution. They wanted a tailored approach to ensure the project was managed correctly with minimal operational disruption. Some areas had inadequate lighting, as low as 550 Lux instead of the recommended 1000 Lux. Inefficient lighting had led to higher energy costs, while failing lights had made the store look dull.
What we did
We designed a tailored lighting solution using the most efficient, long-lasting lights available, backed by excellent warranties. To ensure seamless control, we collaborated with suppliers to integrate wireless lighting into a single Building Management System. The final setup provides precise control over 11 lighting zones, allowing for brightness adjustments, daylight sensors to dim lights when natural light is sufficient, and motion sensors to turn off lights in unused areas at night. This smart solution maximises energy efficiency while maintaining optimal lighting conditions.
Outcome
We increased store lighting by 175% to 1000 Lux in the aisles using high-output, ultra-efficient wireless highbays with daylight and motion sensors. The upgrade improved efficiency, cutting energy costs while boosting employee morale and productivity. It also enhanced the store’s atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on customers and reflecting PAK’nSAVE’s high standards.
