Blackwells Holden in Waterloo Rd have a mechanics workshop, paint and panel and a service centre.
Pre-install
The old highbay lighting was a form of LED lighting that we hadn’t encountered before, they were neither bright nor effective, in fact they had an 80s Star Wars look about them! It was definitely a case of buy cheap, buy twice. As a result the working areas that really need a high level visual accuracy were lacking them.
What we did
We installed 28,000 lumen fittings into the main workshop areas to make sure the mechanics and paint and panel workers could see any imperfections on the vehicles. We upgraded the pit lighting to provide more light to the underside of the trucks and made sure the service areas had enough lighting. All of the highbay lighting and some of the LED battens had wireless controls on them so when the doors are open on a sunny day the lights will dim or turn right down, saving more money.
Outcome
The pictures and videos speak for themselves, this was a great project.
Working within a tight budget, we created a design to maximise lighting levels through clever placement and minimise operating costs.
Implemented changes led to a 40% boost in light output in specific areas and achieved estimated annual savings of $25,000.
