With ultra efficient lights and a new lighting control system we were able to increase lighting levels by up to 200% throughout the store.
Pre-install
The previous lighting was over 10 years old, leading to reduced light output, with many not even working. The lighting levels in the retail box were measured at 317 lux and the lighting above the entrance and tills was poor. There were also problems with the existing lighting control system, where some lights would not turn off and diagnosing the problem had been problematic and ongoing.
What we did
We assessed the site for suitability of lighting output, working with the owner to identify areas that needed special attention then selected a wireless lighting system that would replace and fix their lighting control issues. We worked with employees to develop an installation process that ensured safety, with minimal disruption to store operations. We installed new lighting in the main retail box, entrance, above the tills and the garden centre.
Outcome
The lighting levels have increased by 50% to 200% throughout the building. The products in the store are popping more as a result and the brighter environment is more pleasant for employees to work in. The average savings to date of $3,000 per month were 40% higher than we had initially calculated and the energy efficient bulbs reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 18.7 tonnes per year. We recycled 1552 bulbs and all of the metal light fittings, greatly minimising the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Aramex achieved an exceptional return on investment of only 2.1 years and an annual net saving of $19,124.
We removed over 100 lights and still managed to increase lighting levels by 200-400% across the store.
